Could it be the drop in population in the American realm is due to Europeans going back to the Europe realm? That could explain why America doesn't hold the HOH as much as they used to.

Of course it could also be Europe's population remaining the same but America's dropping.

I cant belive this thread ever made it to page 6

it will not "die" before chapter 2 comes out it might slow down but it wont die

a few people are leaving SO WHAT they will play some other games for ahwile they might come back and play some more before chapter 2 comes out they might not

but I know that a few days ago lions arch had almost 200 districts!! and thats just american!
at the same time there were also around 30 international districts up who knows how many european

some of those people got on guildwars just for that event, they will now go back to playing WOW or whatever.
they didnt lose complete interest in the game they are just a bit bored of it for ahwile.

I know I have taken quite a few 1 or 2 week breaks from guildwars because I was bored, but every time I come back I find something new and fun to do.

I am sure before chapter 2 comes some of these people will have a renewed interest in guildwars and we will see a few more people on

remember guys no monthly fee = dont have to play nonstop to get "your money worth"

THE END

Why People keep Saying things like this?

Quote:

Are you all at School or something.

I dont know in $ but whats £9 or £10 a month for a Game?

How much do you spend on Alcohol every month?

How much do you spend on Smokes every month?

How much do you spend on Junk Food evry month?

I dont think a fee like £9 is a big Issue if the game is worth.

I dont have WoW and its not because the Fee its because i cant put that many hours like its Required at later stages.

Meaning i dont have 6 hours to stay glue to the screen to go the last boss stages, etc...

If i want a real PvE i go for WoW if i want a True PvP i go For GW. simple

Whats annoying is Guild Wars is not a True PvE i knew that when i got it, but dint expected to get this bored this quick.

After all i played D2 LOD for over 3 years and keep me happy.

lol, i played RYL and it only gives me 3 slots. 4 slots is enough for you for experimenting your character. Having like 7 or 8 slots per account seems ridiculous to me

Guys, by the way, i think chapter 2 might hinder some new players to buy it coz as arenanet claims, they are going to sell the expansion around the same price as the original guild wars. However, after chapter 2 is released, for those who interested in trying guild wars will have to pay DOUBLE to buy both original guild wars and the expansion. Man, that's expensive..

Guild Wars is interesting to me because sometimes i cant stop playing and sometimes i get so bored i want to rip my own testicles off.
I really did this to myself because i made a monk and used him as a warrior the whole game, barely scratching through with my retarded build, and now i cant use him any more because im finally at somewhere were builds and skill balancing matter too much, but i cant face going through the level grind again.
This is annoying.

Thumbs down

Taken from guild wars Site

Am I required to buy the new chapters in order to continue to play Guild Wars?

No. Every purchase you make in the continuation of the Guild Wars saga will be your choice. If you purchase new chapters, you will gain access to new regions of the world, new skills and abilities, new items, new professions, and much more. And of course such a purchase will support the continued development of the game. However, if you choose not to purchase a chapter, you will still be able to play the chapters of Guild Wars that you own, and you will have common areas in which you will be able to play with and against your friends who have purchased the other chapter(s).

Could you explain or any other member coz i still dont get it.

Coz i dont Believe that a Monk/Warrior its the same as a Warrior/Monk...

And dont come and tell me delete and make a new one coz thats just plain stupid.

you spend all that time getting skills and gettting armor for what? to delete coz you dont have space.

If they want to make money why not charge money for extra slots i would be happy to pay for that. (when i started not now)

What playable races are there in Guild Wars?

In the first chapter you play characters from the human race. In subsequent chapters of Guild Wars, you may be able to play members of other races.
I think we all knew that, right?

Quote:
How many characters will I be able to have on my Guild Wars account?

The final number of characters per account is four. This may change in future chapters, although that has not yet been determined.
I sure hope so, more slots if them going to add new race.

Not really. The easy scalability means that it'd be possible to scale down to even one single machine for the last few hundred players, if it comes to that. The cost of keeping one or a few machines running server is negligible, and we already know that even MMORPGs with big persistent worlds (which are not as easily scalable) stay around for years after player number has dwindled.
Quote:
Did they really make tens of millions of dollars of profit? Do we know how long the game was in development (before beta), where the server farm is and how much overhead? Can anyone really guarantee there is really zero chance of them closing the servers down in a few years? I don't think so.
One million copies at an average price of $50US means that ANet has drawn in *at least* 25 million dollars. We also know that Guildwars took three years to develop; I've also been told, but can not vouch for veracity, that the development team was small and cost unusually low.
For comparison, other tripple-A titles like Doom3 cost a total of 10 million dollars to produce (three year), Half-Life 2 cost $15 million (three year), and Everquest 2, which presumably was considerably more complex than GW to develop, 25 million (4 years).

In other words, GW is pretty guaranteed to have covered its development costs by quite a margin.

That said, the "no-monthly-fee" model remains to be proven. IMHO the pay-per-month model still seems to win big, financially speaking, as the other MMORPGs make most of their money on subscription fees, and I suspect GW would've made more money if it'd used the pay-per-month model.
But I guess we'll know after the sales figures come in for the first paid update of GW.

WRT the servers, I don't know how much they're paying or which server parks they're hiring space in now (I believe they changed provider a while back, but can't find info now), but it would surprise me if it's a particularly heavy cost.
Quote:
I don't think they are shutting down the servers myself, but GW is not NCsofts main title and with no monthly charge gotta be a bit of a gamble.
Like I said, they can just hire fewer servers to match the number of players. An already cheap system becomes even cheaper the fewer people play (and keeping at least a few servers generates goodwill & builds brand loyalty at a low cost).

I cannot understand how, for example Blizzards World of Warcraft, would require approx. 60 million dollars a month, considering that they have 4+ million accounts, to maintian a server.

If you are happy with 4 characters good for you. I am not. I don't tell you what to like or dislike so I appreciate if you can do the same.
Its still relative.

If you liken guildwars to a TV, then you get more out of this TV than you would others.

its as simple as that.. there are no TV's out there which provide as much value for money.

There are TV's out there whos life only lasts a month or so which cost the same as this TV which lasts forever.

There are also very expensive TV's out there which do also last forever, but you must pay a fee every month.

The Guildwars TV is the best TV in the world... sure it would be nice to have more channels... but damn, the channels you get are far more excelent than the waterd down, wishy washy expensive channels you get on other TV sets.

you want more slots... pay for them by spending £100 a year on another game.... you un-gratfull git

happily you are probably wrong on the double price.

since they want to establish this franchise and will figure they have already gotten most of the chapter 1 buyers by the time chapter 2 comes out they can include it at no extra cost to them.

how many extra chapter 2 buyers would you get if they saw

*BUY CHAPTER 2 GET CHAPTER 1 FOR FREE*

2 games for the price of one gets attention.

it also gets buyers especially if they have added an auction house (or equivalent) and other nice touches

Could i just advise on going out more.

Ok jokes aside.

I never had a problem with that i even told Anet support about it.

But i guess they won coz i end up buying another copy, but at the end that made me even more mad.

coz you cant merge them and benefit from the PvP unlocked skills etc...

Quote:

How much do pay for your Tv Licence Snowman? cant be to far from £100+ pa.

Now do you watch 1000 hours like people say they have and got a great value from the game? lets not compare both, like we should not compare WoW with Guild Wars.

I just think WoW as a good setup and it can compete with GW, but Gw cant do the same, thats whats bad about it, even if they are diff.

But Next Update they making PvP better. (rigging bells GW)

For me i dont care less how many hours i have played or if my £20 or $50 were worth, i want a game to compete with others and keeps us all busy, and not thinking why i am wasting my time with this one.

Now why should I stick with GW when others show they are better and improving, and when they have announce what’s going to be out on the expansion... and Anet just don’t say anything about it.

Anet/ Guild Wars marketing as to be the crappie I have seen, I could count how many articles i have read on PC Magazines talking about GW.

So lets hope for a Better and longer Chapter next time around, after all its only 3 months away..

Now if they say they will release a chapter every 6 months. What doest that means? For the moaners that say paying fees is so bad... not bad $50 every 6 months.

Most people playing guidwars right now wont give a damn about this game in two years or so. There is going to be something better out, something new. I'm not saying the servers will shut down, just saying that people right now don't need to worry about it. This game didnt have the depth to hold me for more than four months. I dont think that eben the more hardcore players will be around in two years.

Some company will see guildwars as a success and TRY to copy/improve on it. There is a good chance they will do so too. And the newer games will at least have a fresh look and feel.

I played for like 4 months straight since this came out, almost daily. Started with PvE of course, had lots of fun, and enjoyed it. After this was done, I moved to playing in Tombs almost everyday. Quickly found out how annoying it was waiting for a group (most the time an hour plus), so I got a TS server, and started making my own groups. Ironnically, it would take an hour plus to make a competitive group. Had some success, made it to the hall maybe 5-6 times, won it once. But before too long, the long time to make a group got to me and I stopped playing tombs all together. As a last desparate measure to keep playing the game I grew to like, I started playing competition arenas, just so I could start playing right away. Well this lasted for maybe three weeks. Then I stopped playing all together.

So was it worth it? Yes, I got enough enjoyment out of those 4 months to constitute the $50 to buy it. Now could they do something to make it hold my interest for more than 4 months? Sure I think so. I think anyone that would play this for a very long term, would have to enjoy PvP. I just don't think they can provide enough content to keep a PvE only person interested for a long time. That being said, I think the single best improvement they could make in my case would be an easier way to join/make groups (in Tombs). Most likely, some kinda place where you can post your character build (or what kinda build you're looking for), requirements such as rank, ts/vent needed, required skills, etc.. This would be used by both people looking for a group and people making groups. Right now it's too time consuming spamming messages looking for players and trying to fit all the skills you need in that same message. I enjoy playing in Tombs as much as any game I've played, it's a shame this single oversight caused me to lose interest in the game entirely. I see a similar argument in these forums but mostly with respect to trading. They could use some kinda trade interface similar to this as well. Not the WTS and WTB spam we all see now.

I doubt they have 4M active accounts; last I heard they were hovering around 2M, and if anything I'd suspect it has dropped a bit since then.
Anyway, WoW probably also covered their development costs through the initial sales, and although they no doubt have considrably higher running expenses than Anet/NCsoft pretty much all of the millions they're making now in subscription fees is pure profit.

That's why I don't really see GW's 'free' model taking off. I simply think the subscription fee model is more profitable.

no, i disagree. i think in 2 years from now GW will be a tounament game and ill be playing for money instead of infamy (although i couldnt live without the infamy). it ceratainly has more depth than a lot of the big tournament games today.

GW just doesn't stand up as an online title. I wish they had gotten the message about the importance of PVP. I wish everyone was on the edge of their seat about guild battles and the hall. I wish it felt like massively multi-player combat, to be enjoyed at your leisure, and not some horribly nerdy "how can I exploit the skills for the instant win" fest of misery and annoyance.

Such is life. You or I can't control the developers, and can't make them see that. It's just amazing that things were so much better in beta, by accident.

lets see now

in beta you got to play for 3 days a month.

you got to play your brains out and then got a 27 day cool off period to anticipate the next round of improvements.

soon as it was released people played their brains out nonstop and got tired of it.

i wonder why?

maybe people who're getting bored should impose a limit of playing days a month to 4? 4 consecutive days then the rest of the month slather about getting back on GW

boom Gw's fun again and is more of an reward than an routine occurence.
